Pompano Beach, Florida – A tragic incident unfolded late Wednesday night, resulting in a fatal shooting between a gunman and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies. The gunman, identified as 59-year-old Rafael A. Molina, shot and killed his coworker, 42-year-old Warren Chambers, at Broward County Mass Transit’s maintenance center before engaging in a shootout with law enforcement officers on the 3200 block of West Copans Road.
Upon receiving reports of the shooting, deputies rushed to the scene where they encountered Molina, who opened fire on them. In response, the officers returned fire, ultimately resulting in Molina’s death. Detectives later discovered that Molina had taken his coworker’s life prior to the confrontation with law enforcement.
Chambers, described as a dedicated father, brother, and friend, was mourned by his family, who requested privacy during their time of grief. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now conducting an investigation into the deputy-involved shooting, as standard protocol in such cases.
BSO spokesperson Veda Coleman-Wright revealed that the initial shooting occurred at the end of the workers’ shift, suggesting that a dispute or altercation may have led to the tragic events. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses described the scene as terrifying, recounting the chaos that unfolded inside the facility.
