Smirking Brit Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Thai Wife After Dispute Over Care During Illness

Maha Sarakham, Thailand — A British man was apprehended in Thailand after allegedly shooting his wife during an argument that escalated over feelings of neglect while he was unwell. The suspect, Anthony James Condron, 56, is accused of fatally injuring Pattanee Urapanom, 43, at a resort where they were staying.

Police discovered Urapanom’s body lying on a motorcycle outside the Janpanom Farm Stay shortly after the incident was reported around 11 a.m. local time. Despite efforts to revive her, she was declared dead at the scene. Witnesses reported that the couple had been in a heated argument moments before the gunfire rang out.

Condron, a native of Witham, Essex, England, allegedly fled the scene armed, prompting a widespread manhunt. He was eventually located on a hotel balcony approximately 80 miles away in Khon Kaen. Authorities indicated that he had planned to escape to the coastal town of Pattaya, but police swiftly surrounded the location and took him into custody.

Upon his arrest, video captured Condron appearing somewhat nonchalant, expressing confusion about the number of cameras present. He claimed he had no intention of fleeing and was willing to cooperate with law enforcement. Major General Anuwat Suwannaphum reported that Condron indicated during questioning that he and his wife had been arguing, and he felt her carelessness contributed to his anger.

Witnesses have come forward detailing a history of volatile behavior associated with Condron, noting past incidents involving drugs and violence. The circumstances surrounding Urapanom’s death have left her family and friends devastated. Major General Paladech Petwango highlighted Urapanom’s reputation as a beloved member of her community, known for her kindness and charitable efforts.

Local authorities are conducting an investigation to determine whether Condron had assistance in fleeing the scene. Neighbors reported hearing loud shouting before the gunshot, raising further concerns about the couple’s tumultuous relationship. While the couple lived together for several years, they had no children.

If convicted of murder, Condron could face severe penalties, including a lengthy prison sentence or potentially the death penalty. The case has garnered significant attention, prompting discussions about domestic violence and the safety of international residents in Thailand.
