Sorrow Strikes Alabama Community: Man Charged with Murder Following Fatal Shooting Outside Karaoke Bar

Moody, Alabama — A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old outside a karaoke bar over the weekend. Kanen Isaac Harper now faces murder charges in the death of Christian White, a resident of Clay.

According to a GoFundMe campaign set up to help cover funeral costs, White was described as a valued family member and friend, leaving behind a son, and remembered for his protective nature. The shooting occurred just after 1 a.m. Saturday in an area between Velma’s Trussville, which was hosting a themed karaoke event, and another establishment.

Trussville police responded promptly to reports of a shooting and secured the scene for medical assistance. Unfortunately, White was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities indicated that the incident appears to have arisen from a physical altercation between the two men, though specific details remain under investigation.

While at least one of the individuals involved was confirmed to have been at Velma’s earlier that evening, the establishment’s management emphasized that the shooting was not connected to its property. A statement released by the bar’s attorney indicated that no altercations occurred either inside or outside during the event.

Velma’s reported that security personnel were in place at the time, and video footage from their cameras captured some events leading up to the incident. The management has cooperated with law enforcement, providing all relevant video and information regarding that night.

The warrant for Harper’s arrest was formally issued on Sunday, and he is expected to be booked into Jefferson County Jail. In reaction to the tragic event, Trussville Mayor Ben Short expressed condolences to the affected families and highlighted the broader impact of violence on the community.

“This heartbreaking incident reminds us that lives are forever altered,” he said in a statement. “In these times of grief, we must unite and support one another, reinforcing our commitment to peace in our city.”

As the investigation continues, community members are rallying in support of White’s family, reflecting on the profound loss and the ripple effects of violence. Velma’s remains operational, ensuring the safety and well-being of its patrons moving forward.
