The association condemned the attack, asserting a firm stance against any aggression directed at educators.
The altercation unfolded on February 13, 2026, during school hours when a group of male students, reportedly from Frafraha Community Senior High School, was discovered in a classroom with female students, violating established school policies. With many teachers preoccupied by activities celebrating the school’s 80th anniversary, a small group, led by Mr. Nicholas Teye, intervened and asked the students to leave the premises.
After initially departing, the students returned later in the afternoon, equipped with motorbikes and accompanied by additional individuals. They confronted the teachers, leading to a violent encounter that left Mr. Teye with significant injuries and trauma, while other staff members faced similar attacks. The teachers were eventually able to fend off the aggressors, but the situation has alarmed the local educational community.
In response to the assault, GNAT has reported the incident to authorities, demanding prompt investigations and appropriate legal action against those involved. The association is advocating for heightened protective measures for educators and is calling on the Ghana Education Service and community leaders to address escalating violence in schools.
