Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with a mass shooting that occurred in July in the Gray’s Ferry neighborhood, marking the fourth arrest linked to the tragic event that left three people dead and injured nine others. Brandon Fischer was taken into custody by SWAT and homicide detectives executing a search warrant early Friday morning at a residence on South 25th Street.
The shooting took place on July 7 on South Etting Street during a gathering that attracted between 100 to 200 attendees. Authorities indicated that chaos erupted with “contagious gunfire,” triggered by an initial gunshot that caused multiple people to draw their weapons and fire indiscriminately.
Three other suspects—Jihad Gray, 35; Daquan Brown, 21; and Terrell Frazier, 22—have also been charged in connection with the incident. Each faces serious charges, including murder and attempted murder, along with various firearm-related offenses. Fischer is similarly charged, reflecting the severity of the violence that unfolded that night.
Investigators have categorized the shooting as a result of at least a dozen individuals firing weapons. They collected 140 pieces of ballistic evidence and discovered 13 firearms at the crime scene. Authorities have stated there was no identifiable argument or conflict among attendees prior to the gunfire. Instead, they believe a single shot, possibly fired into the air, incited panic and led to a chain reaction of shooting.
The deceased victims include 23-year-old Zahir Wylie, 19-year-old Jason Reese, and 24-year-old Azir Harris. In addition to the fatalities, several individuals sustained injuries, including a 15-year-old girl and two teenage boys aged 17.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, with police urging the public to come forward with any information. Citizens can contact Philadelphia police at 215-686-TIPS or submit tips anonymously online. As authorities continue to piece together the events that led to this shocking act of violence, the community grapples with the fallout from the incident, highlighting the urgent need for discussions about gun violence and public safety.
