On the afternoon of Nov. 4, around 5:00 p.m., law enforcement received a distress call through E911 about a shooting that occurred inside a home located on Brookdale Circle. Upon their arrival, Valdosta Police Department officers discovered Amarius Dakwon Shivers with a fatal gunshot wound to his head. Despite immediate first aid efforts by the officers and subsequent medical assistance from Valdosta Fire Department and emergency services, Shivers was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation rapidly progressed when detectives at the scene noticed several individuals exiting the home. Around the same time, a pivotal phone call from a concerned mother led police to the alleged shooter, her 15-year-old son, who was at their residence. She reportedly contacted law enforcement voluntarily, concerned her son might be involved.
Further investigation revealed that a group of teenagers had been present at the home during the incident. It appears that the teen was handling the gun when it accidentally discharged, hitting Shivers. The 15-year-old has been taken into custody and faces charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a minor.
