Investigators said a gray sedan appeared to pull alongside the victim’s vehicle before several shots were fired.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A 19-year-old man was found fatally shot inside a vehicle near FM 529 and the Grand Parkway early Friday, prompting a homicide investigation into what authorities described as a roadway shooting.
Harris County sheriff’s deputies were called to the intersection shortly before 3 a.m. after receiving a report of gunfire. They found the man in the driver’s seat with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the victim had been driving west on FM 529 toward the Grand Parkway when a gray sedan traveled beside his vehicle on the passenger side. Several shots appeared to have been fired from the sedan into the victim’s vehicle, sheriff’s Sgt. Sidney Miller said.
The victim’s vehicle remained running when authorities reached the scene. Detectives examined the roadway and the vehicle as they worked to establish the sequence of events and identify the other car.
Authorities had not released the victim’s name as of Saturday. No description of the suspected shooter was available, and officials had not announced an arrest.
Detectives were also working to determine what led to the shooting. Officials said they did not know whether it began as a road-rage encounter or whether the victim and the person who opened fire knew each other.
The investigation centers on the movements of the two vehicles as they approached the Grand Parkway. Authorities have described the other vehicle only as an apparent gray sedan.
The shooting occurred near a major intersection north of the Katy area, where FM 529 meets State Highway 99, also known as the Grand Parkway. Parts of the area were restricted while investigators processed the scene Friday morning.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office continued investigating Saturday. The agency had not released information about a possible motive, suspect or arrest.
