Teen Girl Arrested After Deadly Humble Apartment Shooting

Deputies said the victim and the 17-year-old girl were in a dating relationship.

HUMBLE, Texas — A 20-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday night at a northeast Harris County apartment complex, and deputies arrested a 17-year-old girl who they said returned to the scene after the shooting.

The shooting happened around 9:15 p.m. at The Henry at Woodland Hills apartments on Woodland Hills Drive in the Humble area. Harris County sheriff’s deputies found the man unresponsive with a gunshot wound. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

Witnesses told investigators they heard a man and a woman arguing before gunfire. They also reported seeing a dark-colored vehicle leave the complex after the shots. Deputies were still working the scene when a 17-year-old girl returned in a dark vehicle and told investigators she had been there when the man was shot.

Sgt. Pinkins with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said deputies believe the girl was involved in the shooting. Investigators also said she and the victim were in a dating relationship. Officials had not released the man’s name Friday morning, pending notification of relatives.

The sheriff’s office did not immediately say what charge the girl may face or whether a weapon had been recovered. Detectives were expected to review witness statements, scene evidence and any available video from the apartment complex as the homicide investigation continued.

The case remained active Friday, with deputies working to determine what led to the argument and who fired the fatal shot. No other injuries were reported at the apartment complex.
