Teen Killed in Bed as Gunfire Rips Through Fort Worth Home

Police say the 15-year-old student was inside his bedroom when shots were fired into the residence.

FORT WORTH, Texas — A 15-year-old high school student was killed early Thursday when gunfire from a suspected drive-by shooting pierced the walls of his family’s home, striking him while he was inside, authorities and relatives said.

The killing has shaken a south Fort Worth neighborhood and left investigators searching for answers as no suspect or motive has been identified. The victim, a sophomore and athlete, died after being rushed to a hospital, prompting grief across his school community and raising concerns about safety in residential areas.

Police said officers were called around 1:30 a.m. to the 6700 block of Glenbrook Lane after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found the teenage boy suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home. He was transported by emergency crews to a hospital, where he later died. Authorities believe the shots were fired from outside the residence in what they described as a drive-by shooting. The investigation is being handled as a homicide, and detectives have not announced any arrests.

The victim was identified by family members as Prince Washington, a 15-year-old student at South Hills High School. His father said the teen had been lying in bed when multiple bullets tore through the duplex. He described the sound as rapid and overwhelming, comparing it to fireworks going off inside the house. According to the father, the teen managed to leave his room after being hit and told family members he had been shot before collapsing. Police have not said how many rounds were fired or whether the home was targeted.

Family members said they had moved into the home only a few months earlier and did not believe the shooting was connected to any dispute involving the victim. The teen’s father described him as respectful and focused, saying he spent much of his time practicing basketball and staying out of trouble. School officials confirmed the student was enrolled as a sophomore and said counseling services would be made available to students and staff coping with the loss.

Neighbors reported hearing a burst of gunfire in the early morning hours, describing it as loud and continuous. Some initially believed the noise was someone knocking or setting off fireworks before realizing it was gunshots. The incident has left residents unsettled in what they described as a typically quiet area. Investigators have not released information about a possible vehicle or suspects, and it remains unclear whether the shooting was random or targeted.

Fort Worth police said detectives are continuing to gather evidence, including canvassing the area for surveillance footage and interviewing potential witnesses. Authorities have asked anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine who was responsible and why the home was struck. No timeline has been given for when additional details might be released.

As the investigation continues, the victim’s family and school community are mourning a life cut short. School officials said support services would remain available in the coming days, acknowledging that the loss may affect students and staff in different ways. The teen’s father said his son had plans for the future and was known for his positive attitude.

The case remains unsolved, with police expected to provide updates as new information becomes available. Investigators have not announced any persons of interest as of Friday afternoon.
