Teen Suspect Charged in Vicious Attack and Robbery of Woman on Way to Sunday Mass in Queens

Queens, New York – A teen suspect has been charged in connection with a violent attack and robbery of a woman on her way to Sunday Mass in Queens. The incident, captured on security camera video, showed the 68-year-old victim being thrown from the steps of Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in the Briarwood section. The suspect then proceeded to steal her purse and car.

The victim, identified as Irene Tahliambouris by her family, suffered serious injuries including a skull fracture and a black eye. Despite the severity of the attack, she managed to survive and is currently fighting for her life in the hospital. Rev. Konstantinos Kalogridis described the attack as “horrible” and “pure evil,” emphasizing the need for justice to be served.

Shortly after the incident, police arrested a 16-year-old suspect on charges of assault, robbery, grand larceny, and possession of stolen property. Due to his age, the identity of the attacker has not been disclosed. Parishioners of the church assisted the victim and provided support during this traumatic time.

In a statement, the family of Tahliambouris criticized the state and city laws on criminal recidivism while commending law enforcement for their efforts in apprehending the suspect. Rev. Kalogridis, who visited the victim in the hospital, expressed relief and called her survival a “miracle” considering the circumstances of the attack.

As the community rallies behind the victim in her recovery, there is a shared hope for justice to prevail. The family’s statement urged authorities to take all necessary actions to bring the perpetrator to justice and ensure the safety of the community. The incident has drawn attention to the need for increased vigilance and support for victims of violent crimes in the area.
