TEMPE, AZ – A man in Tempe has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman in his apartment, leaving her with severe injuries. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Nicholas Vincula, faces seven felony charges, including aggravated assault and evidence tampering.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning near Loop 101 and Rio Salado Parkway. According to police, Vincula became enraged when the woman used his vape while he was showering. He allegedly grabbed her, slammed her against a wall, and punched her before dragging her into a bathroom. It is also reported that he threatened her with a gun.
The victim, who sustained 36 injuries to her head alone, required extensive medical treatment. She described being forced to take Xanax and claimed Vincula was under the influence of Xanax, cocaine, and alcohol at the time. Despite her injuries, she managed to escape and seek help at a nearby fast-food restaurant.
Medical professionals noted the severity of her injuries, including strangulation marks and fractures. Investigators discovered evidence that Vincula attempted to conceal his actions by making her clean the scene and dispose of evidence, including a laptop and phone.
Court documents reveal that the night before the attack, Vincula warned the woman against communicating with others, which led to a confrontation when she admitted seeing another man. Police noted his history of domestic violence and claims of gang affiliation as tactics to intimidate victims.
During the investigation, authorities found a loaded handgun and blood evidence in the apartment. Vincula’s prior domestic violence incidents and alleged gang connections have been highlighted as part of the ongoing case against him.
The victim, fearing for her safety, is contemplating leaving the state. The investigation continues as police gather more evidence to support the charges.
