Gholson, Texas — A man in McLennan County is facing murder charges following the fatal shooting of his brother during a dispute early Sunday morning. Authorities responded to reports of the incident shortly after 1:40 a.m. at a residence near Patton Lake Road, where the conflict escalated.
According to the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office, Corey James Mayo, 51, allegedly shot his brother, 49-year-old William Ryan Mayo, in the chest using a 12-gauge shotgun. Despite immediate medical attention and efforts to revive him, William sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Following a preliminary investigation and consultations with the District Attorney’s Office, law enforcement arrested Corey James Mayo and charged him with murder. He is currently being held in the McLennan County Jail with no bond, and his arraignment is scheduled for Monday morning.
