Dallas, Texas – A Texas fugitive sought by law enforcement for his alleged role in a violent incident has been apprehended. Benjamin Hanil Song, featured on the Texas 10 Most Wanted list, was taken into custody on July 15 in north Dallas after a coordinated effort by multiple agencies.
Song drew significant attention after being implicated in a July 4 attack on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in Alvarado, Texas. This incident resulted in injuries to an officer from the Alvarado Police Department, heightening concerns over public safety and security.
The arrest followed an extensive investigation spearheaded by the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigations Division, collaborating closely with the Texas Rangers, the FBI’s Dallas field office, and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. Their diligence paid off when they located Song and apprehended him without incident, aided by support from other local investigative bodies.
In the wake of the Alvarado attack, which involved armed confrontations, Johnson County officials swiftly issued warrants for Song’s arrest on charges including Aiding Terrorism and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Public Servant. The situation escalated further when, on July 9, federal authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, citing charges of Attempted Murder of a Federal Officer among others.
Despite the significance of the manhunt, no rewards were offered for tips leading to Song’s arrest. The Department of Public Safety had previously announced a reward of up to $10,000, while the FBI’s potential reward reached $25,000. However, authorities confirmed that his capture was completed without the benefit of public assistance.
