READING, PA – A chilling investigation is underway in Berks County following the discovery of a mother and her infant son found dead near Reading. The scene on East Lane remains cordoned off as authorities piece together the circumstances of their deaths.
Geraldina Peguero Mancebo, 31, and her one-year-old son, Jaden Junior Peguero, were declared missing after they were last seen on September 12 near an apartment complex on North Fifth Street. The police had issued alerts seeking the public’s help in locating them.
The search intensified when Junior Cabrera Colon, with whom they lived, was found dead on September 13 in a park. His death from a gunshot wound prompted investigators to connect the dots between the two cases.
Social media users expressed sorrow and concern, sharing images of the missing mother and child, and commenting on the tragic circumstances. Despite the public outcry, initial police reports did not link Colon’s death to the disappearance of Mancebo and her son.
Berks County’s District Attorney later confirmed that evidence from Colon’s murder investigation led them to the location where the bodies of Mancebo and Jaden were found. Although a suspect is detained for Colon’s murder, the connection to the mother and son’s death remains unclear.
The DA has assured the public that more information will be forthcoming, as the investigation continues to unravel the complexities of the case. The community is left in shock, grappling with the loss and hoping for swift justice.
As the investigation develops, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any information that could aid law enforcement efforts.
