Tragedy Strikes Birthday Party in Carver: Two Dead, Two Injured in Shooting During Family Celebration

Carver, Massachusetts — A shooting at a birthday party left two young men dead and two others injured, prompting a robust investigation by local and state authorities. The incident unfolded Saturday evening at the St. John the Baptist Social Club, a venue often utilized for community gatherings and private events.

Authorities have confirmed that the two men who lost their lives were 27 and 20 years old. Their identities have not yet been released, pending notification of their families. The wounded victims, aged 28 and 32, were transported to hospitals in Boston, where they are currently in stable condition.

Carver Police Chief Marvin Cruz stated that the individuals involved in the shooting were known to one another, adding that this was not a random act of violence. Although he provided limited details about the incident, Cruz indicated that investigators are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.

According to a witness at the party, which celebrated a child’s seventh birthday, the atmosphere shifted dramatically as gunfire erupted. Guests ranged from toddlers to seniors, and chaos ensued as children were seen seeking refuge under tables. The shooting took place shortly after 7 p.m., during the later stages of the celebration when around 20 to 30 attendees were present.

Emergency services received multiple 911 calls shortly after the incident, with police and firefighters swiftly arriving on the scene, along with State Police. A medical helicopter was dispatched to transport one of the injured individuals to a Boston hospital, while the 27-year-old was pronounced dead on-site.

“This is a heartbreaking incident,” said Chief Cruz, expressing condolences to the victims and their families. “Events like this affect everyone, especially in a small, tight-knit community like Carver.” As investigations continue, a significant police presence remained throughout the night along Silva Street, which was temporarily closed to non-resident traffic.

The St. John the Baptist Social Club, which serves the local Cape Verdean community by offering educational opportunities and hosting social events, is not a religious institution, according to Cruz. The club is often rented for various private functions, making the shooting even more shocking for many locals who frequent the venue.

As authorities continue to investigate, residents are left grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event, highlighting both the impact of gun violence and the need for community healing.
