LINCOLN, Neb. — A shooting at a gas station near downtown Lincoln on Thursday left one man dead and another injured, prompting a police investigation into the incident.
Authorities responded around 11 a.m. to reports of gunfire at the Casey’s General Store located at the intersection of 13th and E streets. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One man had serious injuries that were determined to be life-threatening, while an innocent bystander sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where the man with severe injuries later succumbed to his wounds.
According to preliminary investigations and witness accounts, the shooting followed a confrontation between the assailant and the victim that originated in the gas station’s parking lot. The suspected shooter, identified as 23-year-old Emanuel Greenwalt-Claypool, remained at the scene and surrendered his firearm to the authorities. Police indicated that he is cooperating with their ongoing investigation.
Greenwalt-Claypool has been charged with several offenses, including second-degree murder, the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and second-degree assault. As a result of the incident, the Casey’s location will remain closed for an extended time to facilitate the department’s inquiries.
