Tragedy Strikes in Rancho Cordova: Family of Four Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide

Rancho Cordova, Calif. — Authorities discovered the bodies of a man, a woman, and two children fatally shot inside a home on Tuesday morning. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident as a suspected murder-suicide involving the deceased man.

Around 8:30 a.m., dispatchers received reports of gunfire near Copper Sunset Way and Mill Water Circle. Shortly after, another call came in from an individual claiming responsibility for the shooting and mentioning the presence of booby traps within the home.

On the scene, deputies found visible damage around the property, including a breached fence and a damaged door. To safely assess the situation, law enforcement employed a drone before entering the residence. Sgt. Edward Igoe from the sheriff’s office confirmed that the drone revealed an unresponsive male inside the house.

Upon further investigation within the property, deputies discovered the bodies of the woman and the two children, who also appeared to have died from gunfire. While the identities of the deceased have not yet been released, neighbors reported that the victims were part of a family residing at the address.

As the investigation progressed, authorities determined that the man found dead may not be the same person who initially reported the gunshots and alleged placement of traps. A team from the sheriff’s explosive ordnance disposal unit searched the home but found no evidence to support claims of booby traps.

Authorities have indicated that they are not seeking any additional suspects related to the incident. The nature of the second call remains unclear, as it is not known whether it was made from a landline or a mobile device.

A law enforcement chaplain arrived later in the day to support the deputies and any community members affected by the tragedy. Igoe described the scene as profoundly challenging for all involved. “This type of response is always extraordinarily difficult. Our thoughts are with the friends and families of those impacted today,” he stated.

Neighbors expressed their shock at the events, emphasizing the normally quiet and friendly atmosphere of the community. “For the most part, it’s peaceful here; we don’t have loud parties or disturbances. This is shocking,” remarked local resident Cameron Daughtery.

As the investigation continues, residents are left grappling with the implications of this tragic incident.
