VALDOSTA, Ga. — A tragic incident involving a toddler and two Rottweilers has led to the arrest of a babysitter in connection with the child’s death. On Saturday, October 4, emergency responders were called to a residence on Pecan Drive, where they found 2-year-old Kamir Jones deceased after a reported dog attack.
Authorities indicate that Kamir was left in the care of 48-year-old Stacy Wheeler Cobb, who was allegedly operating an unlicensed daycare from her home. According to the investigation, Kamir was unattended for more than two hours while Cobb reportedly napped inside.
While alone, Kamir made his way into the backyard, where he accessed a kennel housing two large Rottweilers. Law enforcement reports reveal that the dogs attacked him, resulting in fatal injuries. When first responders arrived, they found the child unresponsive.
Cobb was taken into custody and faces charges of second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children. At the time of the incident, Kamir was the sole child under her care, although routine reports suggest she typically watches around ten children.
In response to the attack, Lowndes County Animal Control has taken possession of the Rottweilers as well as a third dog found on the property. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence, and officials suggest that additional charges related to the case may follow.
The heartbreaking event has left the community in shock. A GoFundMe campaign has been established by Kamir’s mother to help cover funeral expenses. The response has been generous, reflecting the community’s grief and desire to support the family during this difficult time.
