Tragedy Strikes Lake Cargelligo: Pregnant Woman Among Three Killed in Alleged Domestic Violence Shooting

CARGELLIGO, Australia — A tragic shooting incident in central New South Wales has left three people dead, including a pregnant woman. Authorities are investigating what appears to be a domestic violence situation connected to the assailant, prompting a comprehensive manhunt and significant safety measures for local residents.

The violence unfolded Thursday afternoon on Walker Street, where police discovered the body of 50-year-old Nerida Quinn and a 19-year-old man suffering from serious injuries. Emergency responders pronounced Quinn dead at the scene, while the injured teenager was rushed to the hospital and is currently reported to be in serious but stable condition.

Sophie Quinn, 25, has been identified as another victim of the shooting. Assistant Commissioner Andy Holland indicated that the incident is being treated as related to domestic violence, and the victims are believed to be connected to the alleged perpetrator. “At this stage, all the victims appear to be related to the offender, and our investigation will follow that avenue,” he stated.

Community leaders are expressing their sorrow over the violence that has rocked Lake Cargelligo, a town known for its close-knit atmosphere. Independent MP Roy Butler labeled the incident a “horrible situation” that will leave a lasting impact on residents. He confirmed that among the deceased is a pregnant woman, further amplifying the community’s mourning.

As the search for the alleged shooter unfolds, authorities have identified 37-year-old Julian Ingram as the suspect. Residents received instructions to stay indoors for their safety while law enforcement intensifies the hunt. Ingram, also known as Pierpoint, has been described as having an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance and is about 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 7 inches tall. He was last seen driving a Ford Ranger utility vehicle, which features notable council signage.

Local businesses have closed as a precautionary measure, emphasizing the community’s desire for safety amid the ongoing crisis. An IGA spokesperson remarked on social media that the closure was in collaboration with police recommendations to protect staff and customers during the active investigation.

The atmosphere in Lake Cargelligo has shifted dramatically as residents grapple with the aftermath of this shocking event. Many have taken to social media to express their feelings of disbelief and concern for their once peaceful town.

Authorities urge anyone who sees Ingram not to approach him but to contact emergency services immediately.
