Tragedy Strikes Tremonton: Father and Daughter Found Dead in Heartbreaking Murder-Suicide Incident

TREMONTON, Utah — A tragic incident in Tremonton has left a community reeling after a father reportedly took his own life following the death of his young daughter on December 16. Local authorities confirmed on Tuesday that the incident was classified as a murder-suicide.

Tremonton-Garland Police Chief Dustin Cordova outlined the situation in a statement, affirming that a father intentionally killed his 7-year-old daughter before ending his own life. While specifics of the case remain undisclosed, Cordova emphasized that it was an isolated domestic incident.

The identities of those involved were not released at the time, but obituaries indicate that Ricky Gonzales, 36, and his daughter, Rissa AdaLynn Gonzales, both died on that date. Rissa’s obituary painted a vivid picture of her as a lively child who touched the hearts of many. Described as “a vibrant and joyful soul,” she was known for her dance skills with VaDels Dance Studio and her love for sports like softball and gymnastics. Her mother, Katie, reportedly held a special place in Rissa’s heart, as the young girl cherished her time spent with family.

In light of this heartbreaking loss, a GoFundMe account has been established to assist Rissa’s mother with funeral expenses. The fundraiser was initiated by a family friend who shared the anguish of losing a child at such a tender age.

Cordova urged the community to remain respectful of the grieving families involved, highlighting the emotional toll on officers who responded to the scene. “This is a devastating loss. As both a police chief and parent, there are no words to express the pain of losing a child. My heart goes out to the family and friends who are enduring this unimaginable heartbreak,” he remarked.

This incident marks a particularly challenging year for the Tremonton-Garland police, compounded by the deaths of two officers who were shot in August while attending to a domestic violence call. The department has faced significant strain, illustrating the complex issues surrounding domestic violence in the community.
