Piedmont, Alabama — A collision between two all-terrain vehicles at Indian Mountain ATV Park resulted in a tragic incident on Saturday. Two adults lost their lives, and seven children sustained injuries in the accident, prompting an urgent response from local authorities.
The Cherokee County, Alabama, Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident occurred around 3:47 PM when a vehicle carrying nine occupants collided with another ATV that was carrying two people. This collision caused one of the vehicles to overturn and strike a tree, according to preliminary reports from emergency management officials.
Emergency dispatches overwhelmed Cherokee County 911 with alerts about a serious ATV crash. Medical personnel quickly transported victims to various trauma centers. One adult was pronounced dead at the scene, while an injured adult female and three children were rushed to hospitals in Birmingham. Sadly, the adult female later succumbed to her injuries, according to a joint statement from the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency and the local coroner’s office.
Four children, aged between 1 and 12, were taken to Atrium-Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia, for treatment. The injuries among the children range from severe to moderate, highlighting the precarious nature of recreational vehicle use in such environments.
Sheriff Shaver expressed deep condolences regarding the tragic outcome, emphasizing the need for safe operation of recreational vehicles. “This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety regulations,” he stated.
