Bonny Island, Nigeria — A raid by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) turned deadly on February 6, 2026, when Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid was killed in an attack orchestrated by drug traffickers. The operation targeted a notorious drug hub known as Ama Hausa, where agents successfully apprehended six suspects and seized a substantial quantity of illegal drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and tramadol.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the incident unfolded when drug dealers, led by suspected gang leader Genesis George Benson, retaliated violently against the operatives. Armed hoodlums were dispatched to confront the NDLEA team, leading to a brutal clash. Mujahid sustained severe head injuries during the altercation and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Despite the chaos, the NDLEA operatives maintained their resolve. Babafemi reported that all six individuals targeted during the operation were arrested, including Benson, who is linked to Mujahid’s death. In addition to Benson, the suspects included ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, the chairman and chief executive officer of the NDLEA, praised the courage and dedication of the agency’s personnel in the face of danger. “The bravery exhibited by our men during this cowardly assault is commendable,” he stated, underscoring their commitment to combatting drug trafficking.
“Our officers’ commitment to the mission remains unshaken, and we will continue to confront these criminals, regardless of the risks involved,” Marwa said. As he expressed condolences to Mujahid’s family and colleagues, he emphasized the agency’s resolve to hold accountable those who attack its members, warning that such aggression would have serious repercussions.
Marwa described Mujahid as a disciplined and courageous officer whose sacrifice epitomized the agency’s fight against drug-related crimes. He reiterated the NDLEA’s unwavering mission to rid Nigeria of illicit drugs, stating that every attack on their personnel is viewed as an assault on the state itself.
In the aftermath of the raid, the NDLEA continues to seek justice and further dismantle the networks responsible for drug trafficking in Nigeria. The agency’s leadership remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the community and ensuring the safety of its operatives as they confront increasingly dangerous criminal elements.
