Noida, India – A tragic incident occurred during a wedding procession in Agahpur village, Noida, late Sunday evening, resulting in the death of a two-and-a-half-year-old boy. The child was fatally injured by a bullet allegedly fired in celebration by a man who then fled the scene.
The incident took place at approximately 10 p.m. at the residence of Balveer Singh, where a ‘barat,’ a traditional wedding procession, was being held. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Ram Badan Singh, the suspect, identified as Happy and believed to be from the groom’s village, fired the gun during the celebration.
Eyewitnesses, including the family of Vikas Sharma, were present at the scene. They were watching the procession from their balcony when the tragedy struck, hitting Sharma’s young son. The boy was immediately rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police detained the groom for questioning, holding him at the local station for several hours. He was later released after his father intervened to clarify the situation. An official case has been registered against the accused, who remains at large, with police efforts to apprehend him ongoing.
In a separate but equally heartbreaking incident in Dondemadihalli, Nagamangala taluk, Mandya district, Karnataka, another young child lost his life under tragic circumstances. A three-year-old boy was killed when his 13-year-old brother accidentally discharged a loaded gun while they were playing at their home.
The boys are the children of migrant laborers from Assam, employed at a local poultry farm. It was reported that the loaded firearm, which belonged to the poultry farm owner and was kept on a shelf ostensibly for security purposes, was found by the elder brother. Not realizing the peril, he accidentally triggered the gun, critically injuring his younger sibling and also wounding their mother.
These incidents have cast a spotlight on the dangers of firearms, especially when accessible to untrained individuals or left unsecured in households and public gatherings. They underscore the urgent need for stringent safety measures and regulations concerning gun ownership and use in India.
As the local communities mourn the loss of these young lives, questions are being raised about the adequacy of current firearm control policies and the enforcement of existing laws meant to prevent such tragedies.
