Tragic Coral Gables Murder-Suicide Leaves Two Dead, One Injured in Domestic Incident

Coral Gables, Florida – Authorities have identified the victims of an apparent murder-suicide shooting that took place in Coral Gables. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of Lusine Melikyan, 41, and Matthew Vincent Roll, 60, while leaving Melikyan’s son, 20-year-old Suren Mkrtchyan, critically injured but stable condition.

Responding to reports of a shooting, Coral Gables Police rushed to the scene at the Gables Ponce apartment building on Granello Avenue on Thursday morning. Upon arrival, officers discovered Melikyan and Roll deceased from gunshot wounds, with Mkrtchyan also suffering from gunshot injuries.

According to Miami-Dade Police, Mkrtchyan called 911 to report the shooting and the injuries sustained by himself and the other two individuals in the apartment. Authorities have disclosed that Roll, believed to be the shooter, and Melikyan were involved in a domestic partnership. Additionally, it was revealed that Mkrtchyan is Melikyan’s son.

Public records indicate that Roll had relocated his family from California to South Florida following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, financial struggles seemed to have plagued the family, as evidenced by a bankruptcy petition filed in January that highlighted their income of less than $3,200 per month. Despite efforts to secure small business loans and Melikyan’s employment at Milam’s Market, their rent at Gables Ponce exceeded $3,500.

Following the discharge of their debt through a chapter 7 bankruptcy, an eviction order from the apartment was signed by a judge. As authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the shooting, details surrounding the circumstances leading to the tragic event remain undisclosed. The community is left mourning the loss of two lives and praying for Mkrtchyan’s full recovery.
