According to eyewitness accounts, the incident began suddenly when a pit bull, reportedly breaking free from its leash, attacked a Rottweiler named Rocky who was in his owner’s front yard. Rocky’s owner, Creighton McCarthy, recalled the harrowing moments the pit bull lunged at his dog, leading to a volatile struggle between the two animals.
McCarthy, who intervened in an attempt to separate the dogs, described the tense ordeal. “The pit bull broke away from its owner and charged at my Rottweiler. In trying to detach the pit bull from Rocky, I was bitten,” McCarthy explained. Despite the intensity of the fight, Rocky only sustained minor injuries.
The situation took a grave turn when the pit bull’s owner suffered a serious medical emergency amidst the chaos. Senior Officer Casey Nicholson of the Simi Valley Police Department commented on the distressing outcome. “Amidst the excitement and physical exertion of trying to control the situation, the gentleman experienced a severe medical episode,” Nicholson stated.

McCarthy provided a poignant account of the man’s final moments. “After a struggle to breathe and managing to hand the leash to my son, he collapsed beside his vehicle,” said McCarthy.
