Seattle police are actively searching for a suspect involved in the shooting deaths of two teenagers near Rainier Beach High School Friday afternoon. Authorities believe both victims were students in the Seattle School District.
The shooting unfolded shortly after school let out at the intersection of Rainier Avenue South and South Henderson Street. Eyewitness accounts describe the scene as chaotic and emotional as responders arrived. Seattle Assistant Police Chief Tyrone Davis confirmed that one officer was hospitalized but was conscious at the time of transport.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Seattle Fire personnel. In the wake of the incident, police confirmed that it constitutes a double homicide. The suspect fled the scene on foot prior to law enforcement’s arrival, prompting a comprehensive search of the area.
Authorities utilized a King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, alongside K-9 units, in their efforts to locate the shooter. “We truly believe that people saw what happened here,” Davis said. “We can’t figure this out without your help. Please, if you have information or you witnessed what happened, call us.”
