Tragic End to Love Triangle: Gary Man Charged with Murder After Jealous Attack on Ex-Girlfriend’s New Partner

Gary, IN — A local man has been charged with murder following the tragic shooting of his ex-girlfriend’s new partner this month. Ralph Stokes II, 23, is accused of the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Jimmijion Bailey, whose relationship with the woman had begun just three weeks prior to the incident on October 5.

The discovery of Bailey’s body occurred on October 11, after an extensive search by family and authorities. It was found decapitated and bound with black tape on the 2300 block of Clay Street in Gary, Indiana. The grotesque condition of the body has deeply affected the Bailey family, who despite their grief, are not shying away from informing the public about the details of the crime.

Bailey’s disappearance had alarmed his family, prompting his mother to report him missing after he ceased responding to her calls and texts around 6:43 p.m. on October 5. Subsequent to her report, Bailey’s family managed to trace his cell phone to different locations, culminating in the shocking find of his vehicle still running with Bailey no longer inside.

During their investigation, police gathered that Bailey might have been shot inside his girlfriend’s apartment where a significantly macabre scene was later uncovered. A search of the apartment revealed a burnt smell with several lighter fluid bottles scattered on site and melted flooring, suggesting an attempted arson. Signs of a struggle or altercation were evident with bloodstains and a large blood-soaked area found beneath a blanket on a mattress in the main bedroom.

According to police affidavits, the situation unraveled rapidly on the day of Bailey’s disappearance. After discovering Bailey shot, it is alleged that Stokes and possibly other accomplices attempted to mislead the investigation by moving Bailey’s body and abandoning his car in a separate location.

Stokes, who resided in Indianapolis and had not lived in Gary for over a year, was later pulled over by police along with the ex-girlfriend’s relative. Initially claiming self-defense, Stokes contended he was unaware that his ex-girlfriend had begun dating someone else, feeling threatened by the new man’s presence. This tragic case highlights the fatal consequences of jealousy and possession.

In a related but separate incident, two other men, Jackie Demarco James, 27, and Teajawon Jashon Pellebon, were also charged last week with offences linked to intimidating a man in connection with Bailey’s disappearance, underscoring the ongoing tension and community distress surrounding this case.

This homicide has deeply impacted the local community and Bailey’s family, who continue to seek justice for Jimmijion. His sister, Jakyla Bailey, emphasized that the family had been proactive in searching and cooperating with law enforcement to solve the crime, a testament to their resilience and unity in face of tragedy.

Bailey, remembered as a loving father of seven and a hardworking man with varied skills from barbering to mechanics, leaves behind a community grappling with the brutality of his death and seeking answers from those involved. As the judicial proceedings continue, the Gary community watches intently, hopeful for justice and healing from this devastating event.
