Identified by his mother, Kamid Everett, the victim, Bryant Triplett, was remembered as a home-loving teenager who cherished his family and had a passion for gaming.
The incident, which unfolded on the evening of December 28, is currently under police investigation. According to Everett, the shooter was an 18-year-old, known to the family since he was a child. She believes the shooting was accidental, involving teenagers playing with a gun that should have never been accessible.
“My son wasn’t involved in street life. He was at a friend’s house when the tragedy occurred,” Everett explained. “This catastrophe resulted from careless handling of a firearm.”
Emergency responders were summoned to the scene on Saturday night, and authorities were back the following day, meticulously examining the area for evidence. The 18-year-old suspect has been arrested, but charges are pending as investigators piece together the details of the incident.
This shooting adds to a string of violent incidents involving young people in Milwaukee. Just days earlier, on Christmas, two teenagers were killed and a six-year-old was wounded in separate shootings in the city.
Everett mourned the future plans that will never come to fruition for Bryant, who was approaching his 15th birthday. “He loved cooking. Breakfasts, burgers – he was impressively skilled in the kitchen,” she recalled with a sad smile. Now, rather than celebrating his upcoming birthday, his family faces the daunting task of arranging his funeral.
In the wake of this tragedy, Everett voiced a poignant appeal for increased firearm safety and responsibility. “These firearms are destroying lives. They’re robbing us of our loved ones,” she stressed. “Greater caution and stricter control are urgently necessary.”
While statistics indicate that homicides in Milwaukee are currently lower compared to previous years, this incident underscores the continuing challenge of gun violence in the community.
