MUNCIE, Ind. — The Delaware County community is in mourning following the tragic death of Corporal Blake Reynolds, a sheriff’s deputy killed while assisting a stranded motorist on Interstate 69. The incident unfolded on Wednesday when Reynolds was helping the driver of a disabled semi-truck.
As he worked near the roadside, another semi-truck traveling northbound lost control and struck both Reynolds’ patrol vehicle and the disabled truck. Investigators described how Reynolds had positioned his vehicle to shield the driver of the broken-down semi while he offered assistance.
Despite immediate medical attention at the scene, Reynolds succumbed to his injuries. He had been a dedicated member of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for four years and was known for his commitment, professionalism, and leadership qualities. Chief Deputy Jeff Stanley reflected on Reynolds’ work ethic and the impact he had on the department, noting that he had quickly made a name for himself through his efforts.
Reynolds was also celebrated as a devoted family man, having married in June 2025. His service extended beyond law enforcement, as he was a member of the Army Reserve, showcasing his commitment to serving both his country and community.
The sheriff’s office expressed deep sorrow over his passing, emphasizing the profound loss felt by both his family and colleagues. “His passing is an immeasurable loss to his family, his brothers and sisters in uniform, and the entire community he served with pride,” said Stanley.
As the investigation into the accident continues, both the sheriff’s office and local authorities are focusing on supporting Reynolds’ family during this difficult time. The tragedy has resonated throughout Delaware County, where many community members are honoring the fallen deputy’s memory.
The outpouring of grief underscores the deep bond law enforcement shares with the communities they protect, as residents reflect on the loss of a dedicated public servant. The investigation aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that similar tragedies can be prevented in the future.
