Tragic Morning in Fort Myers: One Dead in Shooting Near Busy Intersection, Suspect Arrested

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A shooting that occurred Sunday morning at a busy intersection has left one individual dead and prompted a significant response from law enforcement. The incident took place just before 9:15 a.m. near the intersection of Palm Beach Boulevard and Oasis Grand Boulevard, where emergency crews swiftly arrived on the scene.

Authorities have arrested 41-year-old Yanko Romero in connection with the shooting, which unfolded in the parking lot of a public boat ramp adjacent to the Oasis Grand. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a gunshot nearby, with one resident stating that police knocked on his door and instructed him to evacuate the building due to the ongoing situation.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office deployed divers into nearby Billy Creek to assist with the investigation. While the police have not yet released details about the victim or the circumstances leading up to the shooting, they indicated that Romero and the deceased were not acquaintances and that they are not currently searching for any other suspects.
