CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Tragedy struck close to Clayton State University early Thursday when two teenagers, aged 17 and 19, were shot dead on a nearby road, according to local police.
Authorities reported that the incident occurred on Trammel Road, just by the east entrance of the university campus. The victims, neither of whom were students at the university, were part of a group of four individuals walking in the area early in the morning. During their walk, one individual from the group drew a firearm and shot the two teenagers before fleeing the scene. The remaining two in the group were unharmed and fled.

Following the incident, Clayton State University issued a statement highlighting that neither of the victims was affiliated with their institution. The university sought to reassure the campus community, stating there was no immediate threat but emphasizing the availability of counseling services for those affected by the incident.
“We understand the concerns that arise with incidents like this and wish to assure everyone that safety is our top priority,” a university spokesperson stated.
As the community reels from this violent act, questions arise about the circumstances leading up to the incident. The investigation continues to unfold, and law enforcement is piecing together the timeline and motives behind the tragedy.
