Tragic Overnight Shooting Near Colorado Springs Claims Two Lives; U.S. 85 Closed for Investigation

Security-Widefield, Colorado – A late-night shooting claimed two lives south of Colorado Springs, prompting a major highway closure early Friday morning. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, near the intersection of U.S. 85 and Main Street.

Emergency responders acted quickly following a 911 call regarding a suspected robbery in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths is currently underway.

Kurt Smith, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, confirmed that U.S. 85 was closed at approximately 1:30 a.m. as investigators worked at the scene. The highway remained shut down between Mart Plaza in Security-Widefield and Glenarm Road in Stratmoor for several hours, causing significant traffic disruptions.

Authorities are focusing their efforts on a person of interest in the case. LaCharles Eddie Jackson, 23, is being sought for questioning, with officials believing he may have information relevant to the incident. “We believe he has knowledge of this incident,” Smith stated.

In an unrelated incident, a deputy’s vehicle was reportedly struck by another driver suspected of driving under the influence while traversing South Academy. Fortunately, the injuries sustained were minor.
