Nashville, TN — A tragic and chaotic scene unfolded at Nashville’s Antioch High School after a 17-year-old student, identified as Solomon Henderson, initiated a deadly shooting in the school cafeteria at approximately 11:09 a.m. on Wednesday. The attack left one student dead and another injured, marking a somber day for the community involved.
Police reports indicate that Henderson, armed with a pistol, targeted 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante during lunchtime, ultimately taking her life before inflicting a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his own head. The violence did not end with Escalante; another 17-year-old boy sustained a minor graze wound and has since been treated and released from medical care. During the incident, a separate student also suffered a facial injury from a fall and was hospitalized.
The sequence of events that morning began when Henderson boarded the school bus. Later, he discreetly went to retrieve his weapon from a bathroom, as recounted by Nashville Police Chief John Drake.
The motives behind this devastating incident remain unclear. However, investigators are examining digital materials that suggest Henderson had praised other mass shooters online and were engaged in extreme ideological groups.
SITE Intelligence, a group specializing in analyzing extremist behavior, revealed that Henderson participated in several fringe online forums. His postings evidently admired various mass shooters associated with far-right and incel ideologies. Furthermore, he lauded figures notorious for similar attacks and dressed in a manner typically associated with neo-Nazis.
Notably, Henderson claimed in his online interactions that Samantha Rupnow — responsible for a school shooting at Abundance Life Christian School in December — was amongst his followers on the social media platform X.
Regarding the firearm used in the attack, authorities have yet to determine its origin or how Henderson acquired it. Nashville police have been in contact with at least one of Henderson’s parents as part of the ongoing investigation.
In response to the tragedy, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee took to social media to express his condolences and gratitude towards the first responders. “I am grateful for law enforcement and first responders who responded quickly… I join Tennesseans in praying for the victims, their families, and the school community,” Lee stated.
The White House has also been closely monitoring the situation, reflecting national attention on the incident as part of broader concerns about school safety and gun violence.
