Tragic Shooting in Martin: Weakley County Deputy Loses Life in Overnight Incident

MARTIN, Tenn. — A deputy from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office was fatally shot early Friday morning during a confrontation in Martin, prompting an urgent investigation by local and state authorities.

According to the Martin Police Department, officers received a disturbance call around 2:51 a.m. at the Days Inn located on University Street. Initial reports indicated possible gunfire in the vicinity. Deputies were dispatched to support the Martin police forces already responding to the situation.

As the deputies made their way to the scene, they noticed a vehicle leaving a nearby location at approximately 3:09 a.m. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was in the vicinity of Pocket’s gas station. During this encounter, the driver allegedly discharged a firearm, striking one of the deputies.

Martin Police quickly moved to secure the area, apprehending the suspect shortly after the shooting occurred. Emergency responders transported the injured deputy to Volunteer Community Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
