SARASOTA, Fla. — Authorities are piecing together the tragic events surrounding the shooting that claimed seven lives in Sarasota and Fort Lauderdale. The incident involved Russel Kot, who had been living with the family of one of the victims, Larisa Blyudaya, until their separation in late 2025.
Investigators revealed that there was no indication of any conflict or triggering event leading up to the horrific incident involving Blyudaya and her family. Kot had been a recurring presence in their lives, having cared for their pets and previously resided at their home on Fallcrest Avenue. He reportedly met the family’s housekeeper, Olga Greinert, on at least one occasion, further deepening his connection to the household.
The situation escalated dramatically when Kot allegedly shot Greinert and Yaroslav Blyudoy, Larisa’s brother. Following these attacks, he sent poignant messages to family members expressing suicidal thoughts. He remained in the home until Larisa and her husband, Anatoly Ioffe, returned from an outing. Tragically, both were also shot upon arrival. Investigators report that Kot subsequently turned the gun on himself.
