Columbus, Ohio — Authorities have arrested a suspect in the shooting deaths of a local dentist and his wife, nearly two weeks after their bodies were discovered in their home. Michael David McKee, 39, was taken into custody and faces two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Spencer Tepe, 37, and Monique Tepe, 39.
The Tepe couple was found deceased on December 30 after friends and colleagues expressed concern regarding Spencer’s whereabouts when he failed to arrive at work. A colleague described him as dependable, noting, “This is very out of character,” prompting an immediate call to the police. When a friend conducted a wellness check, he discovered Spencer’s body at the residence, and emergency responders arrived shortly thereafter but pronounced both individuals dead at the scene.
Police later revealed that the children of the couple, although present, were unharmed during the incident. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office determined that both victims suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
In this tragedy, Spencer Tepe was a respected dentist focused on comprehensive care and implant therapy, while Monique Tepe was known for her background in childhood education and her passion for baking. Family members expressed their grief over the unexpected loss. “We are heartbroken beyond words,” they stated, emphasizing their commitment to ensure justice for the couple and to protect their children during this difficult time.
Investigators believe the shootings occurred in the early morning hours, with a suspect seen on security footage walking in an alley near the Tepe residence during that timeframe. The police have not confirmed whether McKee is the individual captured in the video.
Earlier, Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant addressed a gap in response time when police were initially dispatched. An officer mistakenly arrived at the wrong location, delaying their arrival until a friend made the alarming discovery.
McKee, who resides in Chicago, is not known to have shared children with Monique Tepe. He is currently being held in an Illinois jail, awaiting a court appearance. According to state medical boards, McKee is a licensed vascular surgeon with a clean professional record, although his license in Nevada has expired.
