HANOVER, Ind. — A man from Butler County faces murder charges in connection with the death of a mother from Indiana, accused of using a deceptive social media account to obscure his involvement. This case took a pivotal turn when DNA evidence provided crucial insights.
Wilma Robertson, a well-loved mother of two, has been missing since April 14, when she failed to arrive at work. Her sister, Marsha Robertson, recalled the moment she learned of her sibling’s tragic fate. “My cousin called me and told me that they found her,” Marsha said, her voice filled with sorrow.
Authorities describe the scene of their discovery as grim; Wilma was found in her Hanover home with fatal stab wounds. Marsha reflected on her sister’s devotion to her children, stating, “They were her world.” Wilma’s absence has left the family heartbroken and searching for answers.
Initially, police arrested a man from Louisville, believing him to be responsible for Wilma’s murder. However, further investigations revealed that Nigel Thomas, an Oxford resident and Wilma’s ex-boyfriend, allegedly framed this man. Authorities claim Thomas created social media profiles under the man’s name, sending messages to Wilma’s family in which he confessed to the crime. Ultimately, DNA evidence cleared the suspect of any wrongdoing, leading to the dismissal of all charges against him.
Once established as a suspect, Thomas was arrested in Oxford and charged with Wilma’s murder. As the investigation unfolded, Wilma’s family remembered her fondly. “She was super funny, always in a good mood,” her cousin, Kimberly Danner, shared.
As the case continues, Marsha struggles to comprehend the motivations behind such a violent act. “I just don’t understand why. My sister was not a mean person; she didn’t have a mean bone in her body,” she said, grappling with an overwhelming sense of loss.
In the wake of this tragedy, the family has created a fundraiser to support Wilma’s children, hoping to provide some stability in these trying times.
