Police said the suspect knew the victims and was arrested after a brief chase.
CARROLLTON, Texas — A 69-year-old man opened fire during a business meeting Tuesday in a Koreatown shopping center north of Dallas, killing two men and injuring three other adults, Carrollton police said.
Police identified the suspect as Seung Ho Han and said the violence was tied to financial disagreements involving business dealings. Investigators said the shootings were targeted and not random. The three injured victims, two men and one woman, were taken to hospitals in stable condition.
The first shooting happened shortly before 10 a.m. at K Towne Plaza near State Highway 121 and West Hebron Parkway. Officers found four people with gunshot wounds in the parking lot area. One man died there, while three others were taken for treatment. Carrollton Police Chief Roberto Arredondo said the suspect and victims had “a known business relationship.”
About an hour later, police were called to an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Old Denton Road, about 4 miles away. Officers found another man dead inside an apartment. Investigators said Han carried out both shootings. Police later found him near an H-Mart in Carrollton’s Koreatown area and arrested him after a short foot chase.
Authorities said Han admitted to shooting all five victims and told investigators he was angry over financial disputes linked to their business dealings. Police said they had not found evidence that the attack was a hate crime. The victims’ names had not been released as officials worked to notify relatives.
The shooting drew a large police response across several commercial blocks. Officers taped off parts of the shopping center, searched nearby businesses and set up a command post. Federal and state investigators also assisted Carrollton police as detectives processed the plaza, the apartment and the arrest scene.
John Jun, with the Korean American Coalition DFW Chapter, said the community was mourning the victims. “It’s unfortunate when it does happen,” Jun said, adding that the victims were known in the local business community.
Han remained in custody Wednesday as police prepared the case for prosecutors. Officials said the injured victims were stable, and no further public threat was reported.
