Two Teens Arrested in Montgomery for the Tragic Murder of 21-Year-Old at Gas Station

Montgomery, AL — Two 16-year-old teens have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man that occurred early Thursday morning at a local gas station. Montgomery Police Sgt. Tina McGriff confirmed the arrests on Saturday, adding that the boys are facing capital murder charges.

The victim, identified as Hector Bamaca Yoc, was reportedly sitting in his car when he was shot during what authorities now believe was a robbery attempt. The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. in the 1000 block of West South Boulevard, and Yoc was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the shooting, Crime Stoppers issued photos on Friday in an effort to identify the suspects, simultaneously announcing a reward for information leading to their apprehension. The prompt release of these images and subsequent tips from the public played a crucial role in leading to the arrests of the two teens.

The suspects were apprehended by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and are currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Facility. Given their age, authorities have not released their names.

This incident has shaken the community, prompting renewed discussions about youth violence and gun control in the area. Local residents and community leaders are calling for increased police presence and intervention programs aimed at preventing youth involvement in crime.

In response to the incident and growing community concerns, the Montgomery Police Department is reportedly reviewing and increasing patrols in high-crime areas. Community outreach programs that focus on youth engagement and crime prevention are also being considered.

This case, due to its sensitive nature and the ages of the accused, highlights ongoing challenges in the justice system’s handling of juvenile offenders in serious crimes. Legal experts suggest that the case could become a focal point in debates over how young offenders are charged and rehabilitated in Alabama.

As the legal process unfolds, the community continues to mourn the loss of Bamaca Yoc, remembered by family and friends as a kind-hearted individual whose life was tragically cut short.
