Police are investigating whether speed, braking or both contributed to the deadly collision on Edgewood Avenue West.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two teenage boys were killed and two adults were hospitalized Saturday after a pickup truck towing a steel trailer struck stopped traffic on Edgewood Avenue West, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The three-vehicle crash happened about 11:15 a.m. July 25 in the 1300 block of Edgewood Avenue West. Investigators said a Dodge 3500 pickup was traveling east while pulling a large trailer carrying two vehicles when it hit the rear of a Toyota Camry.
The impact pushed the Camry into a Ford Ranger, police said. The Dodge continued moving, forcing the Camry through the intersection before the pickup came to rest on top of the car.
Two teenage passengers in the Camry were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names and ages had not been released as of Sunday.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department crews removed the Camry’s driver from the wreckage. The driver was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition, police said.
The Ford Ranger’s driver was also taken to a hospital. Police said that driver was in stable condition and was expected to survive.
The Dodge driver, a man in his 50s, remained at the scene and was cooperating with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit. Police said charges were possible, but none had been announced.
Investigators believe speed, braking or a combination of the two may have contributed to the crash. Authorities had not released an estimated speed or said whether a mechanical problem was found.
The two deaths were Duval County’s 106th and 107th traffic fatalities of 2026, according to a Traffic Homicide Unit sergeant. Edgewood Avenue near Lem Turner Road was closed for several hours while investigators documented the scene and crews removed the damaged vehicles.
The road later reopened. The investigation remained active Sunday, and police had not announced when additional findings or possible charges might be released.
