Unsealed Warrants Reveal Shocking New Evidence in Saratoga Springs Double Homicide Case

Saratoga Springs, Utah — New search warrants reveal chilling details surrounding the March killings of Jessica Orton Lyman and her 8-year-old son, Eli Painter. The documents provide insights into the ongoing investigation, painting a complex picture of events that led to the tragic double homicide.

On March 28, at approximately 10:15 a.m., police responded to a distress call from Lyman’s 17-year-old daughter. Upon entering the family’s townhome on North Willowbrook Lane, officers discovered Lyman and her son lying on the bedroom floor, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Eli was declared dead on the scene, while Jessica, 44, succumbed to her injuries days later. Authorities have labeled the incident a double homicide.

Authorities sought access to digital evidence, filing warrants in April to compel Google to provide data from Jessica Lyman’s and her 15-year-old son’s email accounts. Findings from the home investigation included two .22-caliber shell casings and evidence suggesting recent sexual activity in the bedroom. Items discovered included fishnet stockings and several pairs of young female underwear.

During initial interviews, the 15-year-old son claimed he had been napping in his room and was unaware of any weapons in the house. Investigators, however, found two BB gun pistols and other paraphernalia in his cluttered bedroom, alongside handwritten notes alluding to forensic evidence. One of the notes ominously stated, “This is a murder story.”

Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s cameras adds another layer to the investigation’s narrative. The videos show a figure near the Lyman residence around 2:30 a.m. on the morning of the killings. This person appears to disguise their features with a mask before entering the property, highlighting potential premeditation.

Detectives noted that no firearms have been recovered during the investigation, but additional evidence continues to emerge. Forensic analysis of Lyman’s phone revealed disturbing text exchanges between her and her teenage son, marked by hostility and resentment, providing context to their strained relationship.

As the investigation unfolds, police remain focused on gathering more evidence and clarifying the relationship dynamics within the family. This case continues to draw attention as community members grapple with the violent loss and seek answers in the midst of a tragic event that has left many questions unanswered.
