Selena’s life ended just days before her 24th birthday when she was shot by Yolanda Saldívar, a former employee who had managed her fan club and boutique. Witnesses describe a chaotic scene, with Selena attempting to escape while pleading for help.
After fleeing to the motel lobby, Selena’s last words to staff were a desperate cry for assistance. Despite immediate efforts by first responders, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. Her life was cut tragically short, and the sorrow left by her death is still felt today.
Following the incident, Saldívar was arrested after a lengthy standoff with authorities and later sentenced to life in prison. She will face the possibility of parole in 2025, nearly three decades after the shooting that robbed the world of a shining star.
