Washington, Washington County — A quiet neighborhood was rocked by violence Tuesday evening after a fatal shooting left two adults dead, prompting a manhunt for the suspect, who police said remains at large.
Around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Washington Police responded to emergency calls about gunfire at a residence on Chinook Drive. Upon their arrival, officers found the house’s front door open and quickly made entry to secure the scene.
Inside the home, officers discovered the bodies of two individuals, a man and a woman, both described as adults. “Upon clearing the house, they also uncovered what appeared to be specific indicators of a homicide,” said Washington Police Lieutenant Kory Klotz, addressing the media near the cordoned-off scene.
The investigation led to the identification of Collin Bailey, also known as Mia Bailey, as a suspect in the killings. Lt. Klotz provided a description of Bailey, noting that she is a 28-year-old transgender woman, approximately 5-foot-10 in height, and weighing around 130 pounds. Bailey has hazel eyes and naturally brown hair, although she is known to wear wigs that could alter the length and color of her hair.
Authorities believe Bailey fled the area shortly after the incident. She was last seen driving a mustard-colored 2014 Kia Soul, bearing the Utah license plate number U069GF. The police have launched an extensive search for Bailey, whom they consider armed and dangerous.
Local residents of the typically peaceful neighborhood expressed their shock and concern over the incident. “It’s unsettling to have something like this happen so close to home,” one neighbor, who wished to remain unnamed, mentioned. “It’s a reminder that things like this can occur anywhere.”
The Washington Police Department has appealed to the public for any information that could lead to Bailey’s capture and urged anyone who might spot her or the vehicle to contact law personnel immediately, and not to approach as she could be armed.
As the search continues, the community remains on edge, hoping for a quick resolution to bring safety and peace of mind back to their streets. Meanwhile, police continue gathering evidence and piecing together the events that escalated to the tragic shooting, in hopes of understanding the motive behind this deadly confrontation.
