Utah Man Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Woman and Slamming Car Into Deputy Vehicles During Escape Attempt

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — In a chaotic incident late Monday, a 32-year-old man was arrested after he reportedly crashed his car into vehicles belonging to two sheriff’s deputies in Salt Lake County. The deputies were responding to a report of domestic violence, authorities said.

The suspect, identified as Anthony Scott Zlomke, allegedly assaulted a woman at a local residence before attempting to flee the scene in a white Kia sedan, according to police documents.

Eyewitness accounts and police affidavits detail that Zlomke geared his vehicle in reverse and accelerated towards the officers, colliding forcefully with one cruiser and causing significant damage. He then shifted to drive and proceeded to strike a second deputy’s marked truck.

Both sheriff deputies managed to evade injury by moving out of the path of Zlomke’s accelerating vehicle. They quickly secured the area around the trapped car, which had wedged itself between the police vehicle and a nearby electrical pole, and detained Zlomke at gunpoint.

During the arrest process, officers noted visible injuries on a woman at the scene who reported she had been punched and choked. She had bruising around her neck and blood on her face. An EMS team was called to evaluate a 1-year-old child also present during the altercation, verifying the child was unharmed.

Further inspection of the site revealed additional property damage including a sideswiped parked car and a battered door, compounding the scene’s chaos.

Authorities booked Zlomke on multiple charges, highlighting the severity of the episode. He faces accusations of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury—a second-degree felony. Additionally, he is charged with two counts each of attempted assault against peace officers and criminal mischief causing damage estimated between $1,500 and $4,999. A misdemeanor charge was also filed for committing a violent offense in the presence of a child.

Pending his court hearings, Zlomke has been held without bail in the Salt Lake County jail system.

The incident underscores the dangers faced by law enforcement officers responding to domestic violence calls, which often escalate quickly and unpredictably. It also highlights the broader issue of domestic violence, prompting local authorities and community leaders to call for increased awareness and preventative measures.
