Vancouver, Canada – A recent vigil in Vancouver, Canada, paid tribute to 14 homicide victims, including two women from the Peace Region and one from Prince George. In addition to Agnew, another sign at the vigil honored a 57-year-old woman from the Peace Region who was killed in Chetwynd on Feb. 27, 2023. The vigil also commemorated Isabelle Thomas, 22, who was found dead in her home in Prince George on July 18, 2023. One person has been charged with first degree murder for her death, while another sign at the vigil represented an unnamed woman who was killed on July 17, 2023.
Vancouver Rape Relief emphasized the importance of naming the victims, expressing a desire to honor and mourn them. The organization also called for effective methods to supervise and monitor men with a history of violent behavior, in an effort to prevent further harm to women. The vigil gathered friends, family, and supporters to remember the lives lost to violence and to advocate for greater protection for women in the criminal justice system.
