FORT WORTH, Texas — Body camera footage released by the Fort Worth police reveals details surrounding the shooting of a robbery suspect who fled from a 24-hour vape shop earlier this month. The incident occurred on Jan. 7 in the 3200 block of Fargo Court, where officers responded to a robbery at the shop. The suspect, identified as Walker Cadd, entered the store armed with a crowbar, prompting a 911 call from a store employee.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Cadd, who then fled into an open field and was later discovered hiding in a backyard nearby. When ordered to show his hands, Cadd refused to comply and even walked toward one of the officers. The situation escalated, and the officer fired two shots from his pistol, hitting Cadd in the leg. Following the shooting, officers provided first aid to Cadd before he was taken to a hospital for treatment and later released. He was then booked into the Tarrant County Jail on charges of theft and attempting to take a weapon from an officer.
Fortunately, no one inside the vape shop or the officers involved were injured during the incident. The officer who fired the shots was then placed on “significant event leave” as part of the standard procedure. Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes emphasized the impact of officer-involved shootings on the person shot, the community, and the officers, emphasizing the importance of addressing any issues or concerns in the appropriate manner.
The body camera footage provides valuable insight into the events leading up to the shooting, shedding light on the actions and decisions made by both the suspect and the officer involved. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers and complexities that law enforcement officers face in the line of duty, as well as the impact of such encounters on all parties involved. It also underscores the importance of thorough investigations and reviews of such incidents to ensure accountability and transparency in law enforcement operations.
