Ludhiana, India — Tensions flared in a village near Ludhiana when the wife of the local sarpanch was assaulted by a group reportedly bearing sharp weapons, police said. According to a complaint filed by Parkash Kaur, the confrontation unfolded on November 6 at the home of the former sarpanch, Surjit Singh, who is her husband Jagdev Singh’s uncle. The attackers, numbering around 30, had allegedly aimed to harm Surjit Singh and his family but instead surrounded and assaulted Kaur after a dispute during Diwali.
The violence escalated when Kaur was struck with an iron bar, sparking a police investigation into the assault. Adding to the complexity of the case, a counter complaint has been lodged against the victims by a woman named Reshma, who is implicated in the initial complaint.
In a separate incident in Ludhiana, amidst the bustling streets of Pratap Chowk, a father and son were robbed of Rs 2.5 lakh. The victims, Ankur Uppal and his father, were intercepted by three men as they stepped out of their vehicle to answer a call. Although one of the perpetrators was identified, his two accomplices remain at large. Following the incident, the Division number 6 police have registered a case against the identified accused, Pramod, a local broker, alongside his unidentified partners.
In another part of Ludhiana, a crackdown on drug trafficking has netted significant results. The local police commissionerate apprehended Amarjeet Singh, also known as Gandhi, seizing over 2 kilograms of opium and approximately Rs 22.41 lakh in suspected drug money. Singh, who is believed to be involved in multiple illegal activities, was found in possession of a Maruti Swift, gold jewelry, several mobile phones, and gambling equipment.

Further south in Patna, a police raid aimed at apprehending suspected drug suppliers turned violent when local residents attacked officers with stones. The raid targeted brothers Sanjeet and Ranjeet Paswan, who managed to escape amid the chaos. The confrontation left a sub-inspector and two other officers injured. The local police department has vowed to take stringent action against those who obstructed law enforcement duties.
In a related financial fraud case from Kerala, a man named Vishnu is accused of swindling numerous individuals by falsely promising them MBBS admissions. Victims have expressed frustration over what they perceive as a lack of adequate police action, allegedly influenced by the accused’s political connections. According to reports, some victims were even coerced into accepting settlement payments mediated by the accused’s father.
