Gaza City, Gaza Strip — Despite a ceasefire brokered nearly two months ago, the Israeli military has intensified operations in the Gaza Strip, leading to multiple fatalities and injuries among the Palestinian population. Reports from local media indicate a resurgence in the use of live ammunition and shelling particularly in areas like Gaza City, Rafah, and Khan Younis, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation in these regions.
Recent incidents highlight a troubling continuation of violence. Among those killed was Hani Al-Mo’asher, who died from wounds sustained six weeks prior during a bombardment in Rafah, located in the southernmost part of Gaza. In a separate but equally tragic incident, a young woman named Nada Issa lost her life due to injuries received when her family’s home was targeted in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza; her father and brother had previously died in other Israeli strikes.
Additionally, medics in central Gaza recently recovered the body of a young man east of the Al-Bureij refugee camp. The victim, along with a companion, had been killed by Israeli forces over 24 hours earlier, but ongoing military operations had prevented medical teams from reaching them sooner. Another attack by an Israeli drone struck individuals collecting wood in Al-Bureij, further adding to the civilian toll.
In the past 24 hours alone, the Palestinian Health Ministry has reported the deaths of 14 Palestinians, while ongoing search efforts in the ruins of bombed structures led to the discovery of 15 more bodies. The same reports mention at least 51 people sustaining injuries within the same period.
Another recent strike involved a drone targeting the Kuwait Junction south of Gaza City, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Mohammad Khaled Dahdouh. Tragically, medical professionals also confirmed the death of a child, critically injured by a bullet to the head while inside a tent with his family.
The situation is aggravated by severe restrictions on humanitarian aid. No aid has entered Gaza since early March following an Israeli decision to halt aid deliveries. Basic necessities like food and medical supplies are running low, though the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) continues its efforts to provide essential assistance amidst the blockade.
Compounding the challenges are ongoing closures at key crossings like the Kerem Shalom (also known as Karem Abu Salem), which has been shut down by Israeli authorities for over two weeks, further obstructing the flow of humanitarian and medical supplies.
Since the ceasefire commenced on January 19, 2025, over 150 Palestinians have lost their lives due to Israeli military actions, with dozens more injured, exacerbating the ongoing crisis the region faces. The spike in violence since the ceasefire underscores significant challenges in maintaining peace and addressing the humanitarian needs of Gaza’s residents.
This continued conflict, despite the ceasefire, highlights not only the fragile nature of peace in the region but also the immense human toll taken on civilians trapped within political strife. The international community continues to watch closely, hoping for a resolution that brings sustained peace and improved humanitarian conditions to Gaza.
