Finney County, Kansas – Law enforcement officials in southwest Kansas are probing a suspect for an alleged violent assault against a woman. The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on Sunday in the western part of Garden City. Responding officers encountered a woman displaying visible injuries, claiming a violent altercation involving 47-year-old Joaquin Enrique Cancio-Morales and a family member.
Upon investigation, authorities discovered that Cancio-Morales and several others were at a social gathering where an argument ensued between him and the woman. After being separated, they returned to their residence. It was there that Cancio-Morales allegedly assaulted the woman by slapping her and wielding a knife to threaten her and the family member as they tried to seek help by dialing 911.
Subsequently, Cancio-Morales struck the woman repeatedly on the head with a glass bottle before fleeing the scene before law enforcement’s arrival. Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to St. Catherine Hospital for medical attention. Police located Cancio-Morales and arrested him without any resistance.
Currently, Cancio-Morales is in custody at Finney County Jail facing charges of Aggravated Battery, multiple counts of Aggravated Assault, multiple counts of Criminal Threat, and Domestic Battery as requested by authorities. The case highlights the severity of domestic violence incidents and the importance of swift responses from law enforcement to ensure the safety and well-being of victims. The investigation continues as authorities work to bring justice in this distressing situation.
