LAS VEGAS, Nevada – A disturbing incident at a high school in the Las Vegas area has sparked a lawsuit against the Clark County School District. In February 2022, a video of a violent attack in a classroom circulated on social media, showing a girl being repeatedly punched in the head by another girl while other students looked on.
The graphic video, lasting around 18 seconds, depicts the victim being punched for about eight seconds before she stops defending herself and puts her head down on the desk. Lawyers representing the student involved in the attack have raised concerns about the school district’s policies and practices, questioning what the district knew before the incident occurred.
The ACLU of Nevada has joined the legal fight to support the student, who has been undergoing serious ongoing medical treatment since the incident. Lawyer James R. Sweetin has emphasized that the teenager “deserves justice for what she’s been through.”
In the lawsuit, the attorneys argue that the school district had the ability to prevent the attack but failed to do so. They claim that as a result of negligence on the part of the school and district leaders, the victim sustained serious injuries to her body and nervous system, causing ongoing pain, suffering, and disability.
Despite the lawsuit, the Clark County School District has declined to comment on the pending litigation. This incident has sparked a broader conversation about the safety and well-being of students in the school system, as well as the responsibility of educators and administrators to prevent violence and ensure the protection of all students. The lawsuit represents a significant effort to hold the school district accountable for the incident and to advocate for justice and support for the victim.
